After serving some 30 years in nine churches, I can assure you that some churches get exactly what they bargain for.  I have worked honestly and fervently to build churches and always try to help them find a suitable pastor when I leave. However many churches seem to desire the liberals over honest and sincere administrations and preaching.</div> <div> I have never taken a church solely on it's pay package, but I have pastored small and poor as well as wealthy and large churches. The people make the church not just the Pastor, if their hearts are honest with God, He will bless and care for the church. A bad pastor is a large part of the failures but the people are the consideration as well. Amen."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > (2904 kratos, krat'-os; perh. a prim. word; vigor ["great"] [lit. or fig.]: --dominion, might [-ily], power,strength.)  Strong and masterful in self-control in all areas of life.  This is what the pastor needs to be able to meet the need of his people.  This is a rightly prioritized and balanced. Christian life.  A shepherd must carefully plan the paths of his flock.  He cannot take off running at the sight of a wolf or make over corrections in hind sight. </FONT><I><B><U>Eph. 4:14</U></B></I><I> That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;</I>  <I><B><U>Matt. 23:4</U></B></I><I> For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.</I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>BLAMELESS AS THE STEWARD OF GOD: </B></div> <div> <B>a. BLAMELESS:</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >    The man to be a pastor cannot be in the process of ironing out his problems, they should already be ironed out.  There should be no charges that would have any evidence or stick-ability in his business dealings or with dealings with the opposite sex.   </FONT><I><B><U>Luke 1:6</U></B></I><I> And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.  </I><I><B><U>Philippians 2:15</U></B></I><I> That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;</I></div> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>b. STEWARD:</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  Clearly the pastor must realize first that it is not his congregation or work but God's.  He must also correctly preach and teach God's word -- the way God intended.  A pastor must be able to use God's word in discerning spiritual matters and also in physical matters pertaining to the sheep.  Until a man is able to do this he is not qualified to pastor.  This would include an above-board life and finances.  He should show a pattern of sound business practices.  </FONT><I><B><U>Luke 12:42</U></B></I><I>, "And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and </I><I><B>wise steward</B></I><I>, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?"  </I><I><B><U>1 Cor. 4:1</U></B></I><I>, "Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and </I><I><B>stewards</B></I><I> of the mysteries of God." </I></div> <div> <I> </I></div> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NOT SELF-WILLED</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >    The pastor can not be a man that seeks his own desires, but one whose concern is for the happiness of the flock so they will multiply, and the pleasing of the owner of the flock (God: </FONT><I><B><U>1 Sam 17:34</U></B></I><I> And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept </I><I><B>his father's sheep</B></I><I>, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: </I><I><B>35</B></I><I> And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.  </I><I><B><U>Eph 6:6</U></B></I><I> Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;</I>). <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > A man that has not reproduced sheep is not yet fit to pastor (a soulwinner, not just growing by transfer's and trades from another man's flock). </FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" > </FONT> <I><B><U>Luke 8:14</U></B></I><I>, "And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are </I><I><B>choked with cares and riches and pleasures </B></I><I>of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection." </I><I><U> </U></I><I><B><U>James 4:3</U></B></I><I>, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your </I><I><B>lusts</B></I><I>." </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >One of the things that have crept into Baptist churches today is the doctrine of Calvinism (TULIP-S.GRACE).   This is a doctrine of self-willed men, not God willed men: </FONT><I><B><U>2 Peter 3:9</U></B></I><I> The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, </I><I><B>not willing that any</B></I><I> should perish, but that </I><I><B>all</B></I><I> should come to repentance.</I>  <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >This doctrine thwarts God's will as it stifles the soul-winning effort that a man of God should have.  This is even more disconcerting when considering the history of persecution by John Calvin against Bible Believers (Baptist) and also against those that did not believe at all: <I>"...all that filth and villainy...mad dogs who vomit their filth against the majesty of God and want to pervert all religion. Must they be spared?" (Oct. 16, 1555). He hated the Anabaptists and called them "henchmen of Satan." "Anabaptists and reactionists should be alike put to death."  Four men who disagreed with him on who should be admitted to the Lord's Supper were beheaded, quartered, and their body parts hung in strategic locations in Geneva as a warning to others. He burned Michael Servetus (for rejecting infant baptism and for denying Christ's deity). Calvin wrote about Servetus, "One should not be content with simply killing such people, but should burn them cruelly."  </I></FONT><I><B><U>Acts 2:47</U></B></I><I> Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >Notice, God didn't say, "As many as were elected," but as many as "</FONT><I>should be saved</I>.<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >"  Once they are saved, they become the elect.  You don't become an elected official until you are given the office.</FONT></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NOT SOON ANGRY</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  A man that is quick to jump to conclusions is not qualified for the pastorate: </FONT><I><B><U>James 1:19</U></B></I><I>, "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to </I><I><B>wrath</B></I><I>:"</I>.<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  Jesus was angry at certain things but He responded in the right way (or righteous way)</FONT> <I><B><U>John 2:15</U></B></I><I> And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;  16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > The pastor is not to be any different, he must respond appropriately or he will develop a skittish, nervous, untrusting   flock.  </FONT><I><B><U>1 Peter 3:13</U></B></I><I> And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > He cannot afford to be a grudge holder or bitter about things that have or are happening to him.</FONT> <I><B><U>Rom. 12:19</U></B></I><I>, "Dearly beloved, </I><I><B>avenge not yourselves</B></I><I>, but rather give place unto </I><I><B>wrath</B></I><I>: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."  </I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NOT GIVEN TO WINE</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >The clear implication here is that the pastor is not even supposed to use intoxicating drink as a beverage.  The reason: he should never be in the position where his judgment and decisions are impaired due to things he puts in his body.</FONT> <I><B><U>Pro. 31:4-5</U></B></I><I>, "It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: 5 Lest they drink, and </I><I><B>forget the law</B></I><I>, and </I><I><B>pervert</B></I><I> the judgment of any of the afflicted." </I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NO STRIKER</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > </FONT><I><U>Rev. 8:12</U></I><I>, "And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was </I><I><B>smitten</B></I><I>, ..."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > A pastor cannot be prone to pushed to a point where he strikes out with physically violence during disagreements.  He must learn to assess the situation and reactive in a productive way.  He cannot be reactionary, he must assess situations and decide the best route of resolve.</FONT>  <I><B><U>Colossians 3:21</U></B></I><I> Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.  </I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NOT A BRAWLER</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  A Pastor needs to be a peacemaker among the sheep not helping them to be contentious.  </FONT><I><B><U>2 Tim. 2:24</U></B></I><I>, "And the servant of the Lord must </I><I><B>not strive; but be gentle </B></I><I>unto all men, apt to teach, patient," </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A man that looks for fights cannot have an effective ministry to the flock.  A man that teaches others to look for a fight is not fit to pastor.  Fear of God and chastisement is important, but terror should not be part of the ministry.  </FONT><I><B><U>Titus 3:9</U></B></I><I>, "But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and </I><I><B>contentions</B></I><I>, and </I><I><B>strivings</B></I><I> about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain." </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>NOT GIVEN TO OR GREEDY OF FILTHY</B></div> <div> <B>LUCRE-NOT COVETOUS:</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A man that covets for that which he has not will be led to impropriety with money.  He can never feed the flock of God as he should because his pursuits are not for them, but himself.  His messages will be geared towards this end of self-gratification </FONT><I><B><U>2 </U></B></I><I><B><U>T</U></B></I><I><B><U>imothy 4:3</U></B></I><I> For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;</I>.<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  If the main concern of a pastoral candidate is the money or paycheck, it is a clear sign that he is not willing to trust God to meet his needs.  </FONT><I><B><U>Titus 1:11</U></B></I><I>, "Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor cannot be a lover of money, he will not only hurt his family, but the whole flock:  </FONT><I><B><U>1 Timothy 6:10</U></B></I><I> For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.</I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>LOVER OF HOSPITALITY; GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  A pastor must love people, this is a requirement.  A pastor should desire to have church members over as guests (invited or uninvited), this is his ministry: </FONT><I><B><U>Galatians 6:10</U></B></I><I> As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > He should have a genuine concern for all peoples and have a desire to help them.  The pastor needs to spend more time with the sheep and less time with those out of the flock.  He also however must love the stranger and be hospitable to them too. </FONT> <I><B><U>1 Peter 4:9</U></B></I><I>, "Use hospitality one to another without grudging."  </I><I><B><U>Matt. 25:35</U></B></I><I>, "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:"  </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >For a flock to grow, they must learn fellowship from the pastor.</FONT> <I><B><U>Acts 2:42</U></B></I><I> And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and </I><I><B>fellowship</B></I><I>, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.  44 And all that believed were together, and had </I><I><B>all things common</B></I><I>; in honour preferring one another;</I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>VIGILANT</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >The man of God needs always to be on guard, scripturally proving what he and others in and pertaining to his ministry are doing.  He needs to be cautious, prudent, and watchful in the protection of the sheep entrusted to him. </FONT><I><B><U>2 Tim. 4:5</U></B></I><I>, "But </I><I><B>watch thou</B></I><I> in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor needs to see the symptoms of the sheep and step in and deal with the problems before they get out of hand.  A pastor needs to be aware of that which is affecting the flock from outside the flock and deal with those problems quickly as well.  He must know when the whole flock needs an inoculation (preaching) and when individuals in the flock need an inoculation (individual correction).  He must exercise church discipline when it is needed.  </FONT> <I><B><U>Heb 12:11</U></B></I><I> Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.  </I><I><B><U>2 Cor 7:9</U></B></I><I> Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.  10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A true pastor will be very hesitant to believe in something IF it is possible for SATAN to counterfeit it.  He will be on guard to the extent that he will occasionally have to caution people about their beliefs or their experiences.  </FONT><I><B><U>Isaiah 8:20</U></B></I><I> To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.  </I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>LOVER OF GOOD MEN</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >) A pastor must be able to  know which men to spend time with in the ministry--those willing to be taught and to grow.  It is a waste of the pastor's time and neglect of the rest of the flock if he spends time trying to disciple those who do not wish to be discipled.  He needs to recognize the signs of the type of person wanting the individualized attention to obtain greater things in the Christian life. </FONT><I><B><U>2 Tim. 2:2</U></B></I><I>, "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to </I><I><B>faithful men</B></I><I>, who shall be able to teach others also."  </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor needs to know who to appoint to what position.  Who to give authority too, who to place his trust in for the better growth of the flock.   </FONT><I><B><U>2 Timothy 2:2</U></B></I><I> And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor needs to learn to surround himself with good men both inside and outside the church.  A pastor needs outside counsel and fellowship of other pastors: </FONT><I><B><U>Proverbs 11:14</U></B></I><I> Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.  </I><I><B><U>Proverbs 15:22</U></B></I><I> Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.  </I><I><B><U>1 Kings 12:6</U></B></I><I> And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?  7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.  8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:  9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?  10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us;  </I><I><B><U>Lev 19:32</U></B></I><I> Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.</I></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>SOBER</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor needs to be a man of balance not going off on tangents.  He needs to calmly look upon each situation and measure it according to Scripture.  He needs not to be swayed by feelings nor by other outside controlling factors such as drugs or alcohol or "popular" opinion. </FONT> <I><B><U>Titus 2:2</U></B></I><I>, "That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience." </I><I><B><U>1 Cor. 14:20</U></B></I><I>, "Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >The sober pastor is not under the control of external influences, he is not given to excesses; he knows his limits. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >The Bible claims it is perfect, the pastor must hold that it <B>is</B> perfect (not that it <B>was</B>!). </FONT> <I><B><U>1 Thess 2:13</U></B></I><I> For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.</I>  <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor when asked, "Where is the perfect Word of God?"  Should be able to hold up and show you a perfect copy: </FONT><I><B><U>Psa 12:6</U></B></I><I> The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >In the English pastorate, it can be easily proven that this is the KJV because it is the only Bible with the Textus Receptus underlying it and the Masoretic Text.  If a pastor cannot hold up a Bible and say it is the perfect word of God without error, what is his authority?  It is his interpretation, and the Bible warns against that!  </FONT><I><B><U>2 Peter 1:19</U></B></I><I> We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:  20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A man that stands in the pulpit but cannot testify that he is holding in his hands the perfect word of God should not stand in the pulpit.  <B>It was not perfect, it still is</B>!</FONT></div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>EXHORT</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > </FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor must be able to encourage the flock to serve God throughout all adversities and persecutions to do right.  He must help the hurting to heal and to encourage the faithless to have faith. </FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><I><B><U>Rom. 12:1</U></B></I><I>, "I </I><I><B>beseech</B></I><I> you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." </I><I><B><U>1 Thess. 3:2</U></B></I><I>, "And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to </I><I><B>establish you, and to comfort you </B></I><I>concerning your faith:"  </I><I><B><U>2 Cor. 1:4</U></B></I><I>, "Who </I><I><B>comforteth</B></I><I> us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the </I><I><B>comfort</B></I><I> wherewith we ourselves are </I><I><B>comforted</B></I><I> of God." </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >A pastor should have a spirit of encouragement, not a spirit of a defeatist.  He needs to have the spirit of a team captain, leading them to believe in victory no matter the odds: </FONT><I><B><U>Rom 8:31</U></B></I><I> What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  </I><I><B><U>1 Cor 15:55</U></B></I><I> O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?  56  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  </I><I><B><U>Philippians 4:13</U></B></I><I> I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  </I><I><B><U>1 Samuel 17:29</U></B></I><I> And David said, What have I now done? HUSBAND--WIFE:</B><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" > </FONT></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >The Greek nouns gender clearly shows God's command that the pastor <B>must be male</B> and the wife female thus a lady cannot pastor.  It also clearly says that a pastor must be or must have been married not always single (It is possible by Scriptural implication a deceased spouse would also be a qualifying factor) .</FONT>  <I><B><U>1 Tim. 2:12</U></B></I><I>, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." </I><I><B><U>1 Cor. 11:3</U></B></I><I> But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.</I></div> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <B>b. ONE:</B></div> <div>  <I><B><U>Rom. 3:30</U></B></I><I>, "Seeing it is </I><I><B>one</B></I><I> God,..."</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I>  </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >Is there more than one God, no, what does God mean by one here?  He means one.  This is not three Gods that agree as one, it is one God that is three! </FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><I><B><U>Rom. 5:18</U></B></I><I>, "Therefore as by the offence of </I><I><B>one</B></I><I> judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of </I><I><B>one</B></I><I> the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >What does one mean in this verse?  One man caused it, One man ended it.  No other meaning.  When the Bible says the pastor must be the husband of one wife it is clear.  A pastor must not have been divorced and remarried while the former spouse is alive.  To do this according to Scripture is adultery. </FONT><I><B><U>Luke 16:18</U></B></I><I>, "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, </I><I><B>committeth adultery</B></I><I>: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband </I><I><B>committeth adultery</B></I><I>." </I><I><B><U>1 Cor. 7:39</U></B></I><I> The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >Divorce also breaks many of the other pastoral qualifications listed in the Scriptures.  This also clearly does not by Scriptural implication mean a man cannot have a deceased spouse and then remarry and pastor.  This is still one wife.  A pastor cannot fully understand the love Christ has for His bride the church, if he has not had his own bride.  This is not a concept a man that has always been single can understand.  The Bible is clear on this and that is why the commandment is given.  Some single men quote: </FONT><I><B><U>1 Cor 7:7</U></B></I><I> For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.</I>  <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > Paul is not dealing with men that have never been married in this verse.  Paul had been married and is not now.  </FONT><I><B><U>1 Cor 7:8</U></B></I><I> I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > The context of this passage are to those that have lost a spouse for a reason, not to those that have not been married at all.  These are they that have had the benefits of marriage but have now been taken away from those benefits.  This cannot be used to prove a pastor does not have to be married, the pastoral qualifications are too clear.</FONT></div> <div> <B>c. CHILDREN IN SUBJECTION-RULETH WELL-ABLE TO TEACH</B></div> <div> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > By clear implication a pastor must have children, and they must be under his authority, the must have rules, and those rules must be enforced.  He must administer teaching, discipline, in both spiritual and physical manners.  This is the proof that he can handle a much larger responsibility of counseling married families & their associated problems. </FONT><I><B><U>1 Tim. 3:5</U></B></I><I>, "(For if a man know not </I><I><B>how to rule </B></I><I>his own house, </I><I><B>how shall he </B></I><I>take care of the church of God?)"</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Cooper Lt BT" ><I> </I></FONT><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >Notice, how is he to take care of his house, to RULE.  How should he take care of the church of God to RULE as the husband rules in a family.  This is not as an apathetic dictator but as a shepherd over the flock, a father over his family: </FONT><I><B><U>Hebrews 13:7</U></B></I><I> Remember them which have the </I><I><B>rule over you</B></I><I>, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  The Bible here is clearly speaking of the role of the pastor.  It cannot be the other elders of the church (deacons):</FONT> <I><B><U>Acts 6:2</U></B></I><I> Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.  3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > It was not the deacons to rule, it was the missionary starting or the pastor pastoring the church. </FONT> <I><B><U>Titus 1:5</U></B></I><I> For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > A pastor is the local authority ordained of God to be the shepherd and fulfill the job of a shepherd among his flock.  His authority according to God's Holy Word is that same authority that a Father has in a family. </FONT> <I><B><U>Matthew 12:25</U></B></I><I> And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:</I> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > A household does not have two heads, it has one.  God is clearly delineating the role of the pastor, and how a church can only have one head pastor.  </FONT><I><B><U>Hebrews 13:7</U></B></I><I> Remember them which have the</I><I><B> rule</B></I><I> over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith </I><I><B>follow</B></I><I>, considering the end of their conversation. </I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" > A man cannot prove his rule of the church if he does NOT have the RULE over his family.  This is a requirement.  Notice the child's requirement (which is actually a PASTORS requirement!): </FONT><I><B><U>Titus 1:6</U></B></I><I> If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.</I><FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >  Riot is excess without restraint.  Unruly is life without rules.  The idea here is not the child's character, but how does the man deal with the child.  Are there rules set down and enforced?
