Pastor/Worker Needed
LAST CHANGE 12/5/09
BESIDES PASTORS, SOME OF THE CHURCHES LISTED NEED SCHOOL TEACHERS, YOUTH PASTORS ETC.
TO CHURCHES LOOKING FOR A PASTOR or WORKER
In today's society, it is very important that you check out the background of any prospective church worker including a pastoral candidate. Pedophiles know where to find children, ungodly men know how to abuse authority. False accusations due occur, but from experience in running this database for the past 17 years or so, we need to be more careful than ever. Do all that you can to protect your children. One of the qualifications for a pastor is:
OF GOOD BEHAVIOR-GOOD REPORT
(Webster's 1828: Behaviour, it expresses external appearance or action) A pastor must both have manners in his actions, speech, and dress. The Scriptures themselves can be offensive enough without the man of God being offensive in his actions, speech, and dress. A man's coworkers, neighbors, acquaintances will know if this is true. How does a man treat his neighbors? How does a man treat the normal person around him. If he has a bad name (a rightfully earned one), he should not pastor. Is he a consistent hugger (he SHOULDN'T be!)? Does he take liberties that a man in his position should not take? There are many warning signs check them out! These are things that are very important for us to check out.
(1 Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Proverbs 6:29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. Genesis 20:6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her. Ruth 2:9 Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. Psalm 112:5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? Proverbs 11:22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.)
This is a clear admonition to Do a background, neighbor, former church check-up (This is for folks that are considering a man they do not know)! These positions MUST be held to higher standards to protect the flock and the children in the flock.
WARNING FOR PREACHERS SEEKING A PASTORATE
This admonition comes from a Like minded preacher of 30 plus years in our Lord's service:
Warn the pastoral candidates about the unscruppulous ways of many churches not following the bibical principles in regard to Pastors. After serving some 30 years in nine churches, I can assure you that some churches get exactly what they bargain for. I have worked honestly and fervently to build churches and always try to help them find a suitable pastor when I leave. However many churches seem to desire the liberals over honest and sincere administrations and preaching.
I have never taken a church solely on it's pay package, but I have pastored small and poor as well as wealthy and large churches. The people make the church not just the Pastor, if their hearts are honest with God, He will bless and care for the church. A bad pastor is a large part of the failures but the people are the consideration as well. Many want God to keep the preacher humble and they strive to keep him poor. Most churches I speak to are looking for just an honest preacher, others want a trained lap dog.
Preacher, make sure it is God's will!
If you find a church that has filled the listed position,
PLEASE let me know.
NEWEST LISTINGS ARE ON THE TOP
(P.S. If you require a certain salary, DON'T TAKE OR LOOK FOR A PASTORATE TILL YOU GET YOUR HEART RIGHT WITH GOD! If you don't meet the qualifications for a pastor listed in Timothy & Titus wait until you are qualified. If you cannot meet the qualifications, God has not called you to the pastorate)

This is a potential new church plant in Augusta, GA. We are an independent, fundamental, Baptist and KJV evangelistic team. This is a great opportunity for someone called to learn to plant a new church, as well as be an associate-pastor with an evangelist, pastor-teacher going on 36 years experience. No church salary available, at this time; however, a Christian job opportunity maybe available, if quailfied. This ministry opportunity is best fit for someone who wants to sincerely learn more so than lead a local church at this time.

There is wonderful potential here. We average 50-65 on Sunday morning but only 8-10 on Wed and Sun evening. There is an Awana program that is in need of help but improving (18 last week).
I have started a young Adult SS class and my wife is teaching children. We are working hard to improve in all areas.
There is a great opportunity here for anyone who is qualified to work with youth and teens.
If you know of anyone who has a real passion for young people, and would be willing to move to this area, please have them contact me. The church can offer no pay, and housing has NOT come down like the remainder of the county. But this is a WONDERFUL opportunity to minister to young people.

THERE ARE MANY MORE CHURCHES ON THIS WEBSITE THAT DON'T HAVE A PASTOR LISTED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY HAVE A PASTOR, THEY MAY OR MAY NOT, WORTH CHECKING OUT IF YOU HAVE A BURDEN FOR A SPECIFIC AREA. JUST GO TO EACH STATE AND DO A SEARCH FOR THE CITIES YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CHECKING OUT.
The following is a sermon that I prepared a few years back and thought I would share it. I do realize not everybody holds the positions that I uphold in this message, but this is my convictions that I hold according to the Word of God. I do have friends in the ministry that do not hold to all these positions, and all the churches listed above may not hold to all these positions.
PASTORAL QUALIFICATIONS, A MUST FOR THE PASTOR!
Word Study of Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
(All word #'s are from Strong's Concordance)
The qualifications of a pastor are important. Some of these come with time, some cannot be acquired due to events in a man's life that disqualifies him. It is important to understand the qualifications how God intended them.
MUST BE:
"Must Be" is easily seen as imperative and binding, it is a command from the highest authority. The same Greek word is used referring to what Jesus must do in order to pay-in-full the gift of eternal life (Acts 17:3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.). The qualifications listed are not good things for a pastor to have, these are necessary qualifications a pastor must have to qualify for the pastorate and to maintain the pastorate once he is called. Matt. 16:21, "From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day." Please remember, this is the qualifications of the Pastorate, not the Sunday School teacher, not the Usher, not the Evangelist, but the Pastor. (Some of these same qualifications do however belong to the deacons). God unequivocally lays down what a pastor MUST BE taking all the guess work and human reasoning out.
TEMPERATE:
This word is found only once in the Greek New Testament. The root word from which is derived shows dominion over an area such as the following verse illustrates: 1 Peter 4:11, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (2904 kratos, krat'-os; perh. a prim. word; vigor ["great"] [lit. or fig.]: --dominion, might [-ily], power, strength.) Strong and masterful in self-control in all areas of life. This is what the pastor needs to be able to meet the need of his people. This is a rightly prioritized and balanced. Christian life. A shepherd must carefully plan the paths of his flock. He cannot take off running at the sight of a wolf or make over corrections in hind sight. Eph. 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Matt. 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
BLAMELESS AS THE STEWARD OF GOD:
a. BLAMELESS:
The man to be a pastor cannot be in the process of ironing out his problems, they should already be ironed out. There should be no charges that would have any evidence or stick-ability in his business dealings or with dealings with the opposite sex. Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
b. STEWARD:
Clearly the pastor must realize first that it is not his congregation or work but God's. He must also correctly preach and teach God's word -- the way God intended. A pastor must be able to use God's word in discerning spiritual matters and also in physical matters pertaining to the sheep. Until a man is able to do this he is not qualified to pastor. This would include an above-board life and finances. He should show a pattern of sound business practices. Luke 12:42, "And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?" 1 Cor. 4:1, "Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God."
NOT SELF-WILLED
The pastor can not be a man that seeks his own desires, but one whose concern is for the happiness of the flock so they will multiply, and the pleasing of the owner of the flock (God: 1 Sam 17:34 And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 35 And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Eph 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;). A man that has not reproduced sheep is not yet fit to pastor (a soulwinner, not just growing by transfer's and trades from another man's flock). Luke 8:14, "And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection." James 4:3, "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts." One of the things that have crept into Baptist churches today is the doctrine of Calvinism (TULIP-S.GRACE). This is a doctrine of self-willed men, not God willed men: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. This doctrine thwarts God's will as it stifles the soul-winning effort that a man of God should have. This is even more disconcerting when considering the history of persecution by John Calvin against Bible Believers (Baptist) and also against those that did not believe at all: "...all that filth and villainy...mad dogs who vomit their filth against the majesty of God and want to pervert all religion. Must they be spared?" (Oct. 16, 1555). He hated the Anabaptists and called them "henchmen of Satan." "Anabaptists and reactionists should be alike put to death." Four men who disagreed with him on who should be admitted to the Lord's Supper were beheaded, quartered, and their body parts hung in strategic locations in Geneva as a warning to others. He burned Michael Servetus (for rejecting infant baptism and for denying Christ's deity). Calvin wrote about Servetus, "One should not be content with simply killing such people, but should burn them cruelly." Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Notice, God didn't say, "As many as were elected," but as many as "should be saved." Once they are saved, they become the elect. You don't become an elected official until you are given the office.
NOT SOON ANGRY
A man that is quick to jump to conclusions is not qualified for the pastorate: James 1:19, "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:". Jesus was angry at certain things but He responded in the right way (or righteous way) John 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; 16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. The pastor is not to be any different, he must respond appropriately or he will develop a skittish, nervous, untrusting flock. 1 Peter 3:13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? 14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; He cannot afford to be a grudge holder or bitter about things that have or are happening to him. Rom. 12:19, "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."
NOT GIVEN TO WINE
The clear implication here is that the pastor is not even supposed to use intoxicating drink as a beverage. The reason: he should never be in the position where his judgment and decisions are impaired due to things he puts in his body. Pro. 31:4-5, "It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: 5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted."
NO STRIKER
Rev. 8:12, "And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, ..." A pastor cannot be prone to pushed to a point where he strikes out with physically violence during disagreements. He must learn to assess the situation and reactive in a productive way. He cannot be reactionary, he must assess situations and decide the best route of resolve. Colossians 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
NOT A BRAWLER
A Pastor needs to be a peacemaker among the sheep not helping them to be contentious. 2 Tim. 2:24, "And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient," A man that looks for fights cannot have an effective ministry to the flock. A man that teaches others to look for a fight is not fit to pastor. Fear of God and chastisement is important, but terror should not be part of the ministry. Titus 3:9, "But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain."
NOT GIVEN TO OR GREEDY OF FILTHY
LUCRE-NOT COVETOUS:
A man that covets for that which he has not will be led to impropriety with money. He can never feed the flock of God as he should because his pursuits are not for them, but himself. His messages will be geared towards this end of self-gratification 2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;. If the main concern of a pastoral candidate is the money or paycheck, it is a clear sign that he is not willing to trust God to meet his needs. Titus 1:11, "Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake." A pastor cannot be a lover of money, he will not only hurt his family, but the whole flock: 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
LOVER OF HOSPITALITY; GIVEN TO HOSPITALITY
A pastor must love people, this is a requirement. A pastor should desire to have church members over as guests (invited or uninvited), this is his ministry: Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. He should have a genuine concern for all peoples and have a desire to help them. The pastor needs to spend more time with the sheep and less time with those out of the flock. He also however must love the stranger and be hospitable to them too. 1 Peter 4:9, "Use hospitality one to another without grudging." Matt. 25:35, "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:" For a flock to grow, they must learn fellowship from the pastor. Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
VIGILANT
The man of God needs always to be on guard, scripturally proving what he and others in and pertaining to his ministry are doing. He needs to be cautious, prudent, and watchful in the protection of the sheep entrusted to him. 2 Tim. 4:5, "But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry." A pastor needs to see the symptoms of the sheep and step in and deal with the problems before they get out of hand. A pastor needs to be aware of that which is affecting the flock from outside the flock and deal with those problems quickly as well. He must know when the whole flock needs an inoculation (preaching) and when individuals in the flock need an inoculation (individual correction). He must exercise church discipline when it is needed. Heb 12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. 2 Cor 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. A true pastor will be very hesitant to believe in something IF it is possible for SATAN to counterfeit it. He will be on guard to the extent that he will occasionally have to caution people about their beliefs or their experiences. Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
LOVER OF GOOD MEN
) A pastor must be able to know which men to spend time with in the ministry--those willing to be taught and to grow. It is a waste of the pastor's time and neglect of the rest of the flock if he spends time trying to disciple those who do not wish to be discipled. He needs to recognize the signs of the type of person wanting the individualized attention to obtain greater things in the Christian life. 2 Tim. 2:2, "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." A pastor needs to know who to appoint to what position. Who to give authority too, who to place his trust in for the better growth of the flock. 2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. A pastor needs to learn to surround himself with good men both inside and outside the church. A pastor needs outside counsel and fellowship of other pastors: Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. 1 Kings 12:6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people? 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him: 9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter? 10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him; Lev 19:32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
SOBER
A pastor needs to be a man of balance not going off on tangents. He needs to calmly look upon each situation and measure it according to Scripture. He needs not to be swayed by feelings nor by other outside controlling factors such as drugs or alcohol or "popular" opinion. Titus 2:2, "That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience." 1 Cor. 14:20, "Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men." The sober pastor is not under the control of external influences, he is not given to excesses; he knows his limits. Thus he is able to keep his fellow-Christians within the proper bounds of the Law, both in his preaching and counseling. 1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
JUST
A pastor must be a fair man. He must judge correctly. Psa 82:2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. He must be able to look at both sides of an issue and come up with the just solution: John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. A pastor can have his favorite friends, but he must not lot his judgment be clouded because of them. Col. 4:1, "Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven." James 5:16, Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Psa 25:9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. Prov 19:28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. Prov 21:3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Prov 24:23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. John 7:51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? Acts 7:35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.
HOLY
This is a pastor's fellowship with God. A pastor must needs be consecrated to God, set apart for His use. This is the one element that determines how good of a conduit of God's power a pastor will be. 1 Tim 2:8, "I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." 1 John 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. If a pastor has no communication with God, the chief shepherd, the care of the flock will grievously suffer.
HOLDING FAST THE FAITHFUL WORD
A pastor must have his faith in the Word of God as completely inerrant and unable to be improved upon at all. If his faith is not complete in this area how can he guide the flock in God's Will. Matt. 6:24, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." The Bible claims it is perfect, the pastor must hold that it is perfect (not that it was!). 1 Thess 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. A pastor when asked, "Where is the perfect Word of God?" Should be able to hold up and show you a perfect copy: Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. In the English pastorate, it can be easily proven that this is the KJV because it is the only Bible with the Textus Receptus underlying it and the Masoretic Text. If a pastor cannot hold up a Bible and say it is the perfect word of God without error, what is his authority? It is his interpretation, and the Bible warns against that! 2 Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. A man that stands in the pulpit but cannot testify that he is holding in his hands the perfect word of God should not stand in the pulpit. It was not perfect, it still is!
EXHORT
A pastor must be able to encourage the flock to serve God throughout all adversities and persecutions to do right. He must help the hurting to heal and to encourage the faithless to have faith. Rom. 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." 1 Thess. 3:2, "And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:" 2 Cor. 1:4, "Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." A pastor should have a spirit of encouragement, not a spirit of a defeatist. He needs to have the spirit of a team captain, leading them to believe in victory no matter the odds: Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 1 Cor 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. 1 Samuel 17:29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? Exodus 32:26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
CONVINCE:
He must be able to convince the lost in their need of a Saviour John 8:9, "And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.". To be able to answer their arguments against getting saved Matt. 18:15, "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother." 1 Tim. 5:20, "Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.". He must be able to convince the saved to change. A Pastor should be a proven soul-winner. A pastor must not be an immature Christian: 1 Timothy 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE-HIS OWN HOUSE,
HAVING HIS CHILDREN:
a. HUSBAND--WIFE:
The Greek nouns gender clearly shows God's command that the pastor must be male and the wife female thus a lady cannot pastor. It also clearly says that a pastor must be or must have been married not always single (It is possible by Scriptural implication a deceased spouse would also be a qualifying factor) . 1 Tim. 2:12, "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." 1 Cor. 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
b. ONE:
Rom. 3:30, "Seeing it is one God,..." Is there more than one God, no, what does God mean by one here? He means one. This is not three Gods that agree as one, it is one God that is three! Rom. 5:18, "Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." What does one mean in this verse? One man caused it, One man ended it. No other meaning. When the Bible says the pastor must be the husband of one wife it is clear. A pastor must not have been divorced and remarried while the former spouse is alive. To do this according to Scripture is adultery. Luke 16:18, "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery." 1 Cor. 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. Divorce also breaks many of the other pastoral qualifications listed in the Scriptures. This also clearly does not by Scriptural implication mean a man cannot have a deceased spouse and then remarry and pastor. This is still one wife. A pastor cannot fully understand the love Christ has for His bride the church, if he has not had his own bride. This is not a concept a man that has always been single can understand. The Bible is clear on this and that is why the commandment is given. Some single men quote: 1 Cor 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. Paul is not dealing with men that have never been married in this verse. Paul had been married and is not now. 1 Cor 7:8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. The context of this passage are to those that have lost a spouse for a reason, not to those that have not been married at all. These are they that have had the benefits of marriage but have now been taken away from those benefits. This cannot be used to prove a pastor does not have to be married, the pastoral qualifications are too clear.
c. CHILDREN IN SUBJECTION-RULETH WELL-ABLE TO TEACH
By clear implication a pastor must have children, and they must be under his authority, the must have rules, and those rules must be enforced. He must administer teaching, discipline, in both spiritual and physical manners. This is the proof that he can handle a much larger responsibility of counseling married families & their associated problems. 1 Tim. 3:5, "(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)" Notice, how is he to take care of his house, to RULE. How should he take care of the church of God to RULE as the husband rules in a family. This is not as an apathetic dictator but as a shepherd over the flock, a father over his family: Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. The Bible here is clearly speaking of the role of the pastor. It cannot be the other elders of the church (deacons): Acts 6:2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. It was not the deacons to rule, it was the missionary starting or the pastor pastoring the church. Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: A pastor is the local authority ordained of God to be the shepherd and fulfill the job of a shepherd among his flock. His authority according to God's Holy Word is that same authority that a Father has in a family. Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: A household does not have two heads, it has one. God is clearly delineating the role of the pastor, and how a church can only have one head pastor. Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. A man cannot prove his rule of the church if he does NOT have the RULE over his family. This is a requirement. Notice the child's requirement (which is actually a PASTORS requirement!): Titus 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. Riot is excess without restraint. Unruly is life without rules. The idea here is not the child's character, but how does the man deal with the child. Are there rules set down and enforced? When his child does that which is wrong, how does the pastor handle it? A child cannot disqualify the pastor, a man's actions in dealing with the child can disqualify a man from the pastorate. If he does not display or has not displayed Biblical rule in his home, according to God he should not be a pastor.
1 Cor. 10:27, "If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake." 1 Tim. 2:9, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel,...;" A man's coworkers, neighbors, acquaintances will know if this is true. How does a man treat his neighbors? How does a man treat the normal person around him. If he has a bad name (a rightfully earned one), he should not pastor.
